I'm a sucker for architectural details and facades. They're an endless supply of inspiration. I'm especially fond of crumbly, old places but just about anything can be full of interest and color if you come at it with the right ideas.
Here are my top 3 tips for photographing buildings:
1. Choose your light.
Like anything else a building will have a different vibe depending on the time of day. Experiment with day and night shots of the same place to see the differences. This church was so much fun to shoot in the dark - the color from those windows just POPPED.
2. Get in close.
Go ahead - get right in there and press your nose against the glass if you have to. There are tiny, tiny details you'd miss otherwise. This temple door was ENORMOUS but I really wanted to see the patina on the metal against that shade of pink.
3. Look UP.
Don't always take things straight-on. Look up and around to see what other angles would be interesting. Contort yourself into the fetal position, lie down on the ground, stand on one leg if you have to but make it interesting and your photo will reflect the effort.
